1. I don't understand Absentee Voting unless it's an actual hardship for you to get to the polls, at least here in California where there is a legal limit of 1000 voters per district. In my opinion, if your vote matters to you, you get off your ass and go vote.

This does not mean I disapprove of people who vote absentee; I just don't get it. Please don't give me a lot of guff about how hard it is for you to get to your voting place and still have a job; not only are there laws to protect your ability to vote, but I've managed to do it for twenty years now.

2. Please, fellow liberals, let's not be dicks if our guy (whichever non-Republican that is) wins. Remember that Obama may be a great choice in our opinion, but that doesn't make him the only choice, and some of our friends voted for the other guy.

3. Please, fellow Americans, please remember that Obama is not, I repeat, not, going to wave his well-manicured hands and make the United States a better nation tomorrow, or even on January 20th. He may well improve things; but it isn't going to magically erase years of Bush's policies.

For that matter, he may not be able to do as much as he's said he will, or as much as we want him to. He may indeed find that things aren't as easy as he thinks, and even with a Democratic congress, he may find himself unable to do everything as quickly or as easily as we would like. We will not be a magical liberal paradise any more than we were a magical conservative bastion under Bush. Hell, it may not even be a good thing for him to do things quickly or easily.

Just keep some perspective, is all I'm saying.

4. If California passes Prop 8, I'm going to kick the first fundamentalist I see.

Prop 8

I really want to be angry at Californians who voted yes on Prop 8. But you know what? In the end, I'm just sad. Sad that people can claim the proposition wasn't about discrimination. Sad that the Yes side could convince people with lies and misinformation. Sad that so many people believe that their religious views should decide the laws for everyone else. Sad that people fear gays so much.

And I wonder, with sorrow and trepidation, whose civil rights we're going to be voting on next.
