Fiction test
Ok, folks. Looking for honest feedback here. Don't blow smoke; just tell me if this is interesting to you or not. Assume you'd read SF in the first place.
Everyone knows that by the middle of the twenty-first century, the homeworld of humanity, Eden, was choking on the pollution that centuries of unchecked and irresponsible industrialization had spewed into the ecosystem. Its skies were grey and murky with smog, its forests were disappearing, its seas were barely capable of supporting life.
In the year 2157, the allied governments of Eden embarked on an ambitious plan: Second Genesis. A fleet of ships was constructed, crewed with the best Eden had to offer, and sent out into the void to seek a new home for her huddled masses.
Everyone knows that, after many years of jumping through slipspace and finding a seemingly-endless series of lifeless rocks, the fleet found and settled the world we now call Vale. Everyone knows that the fleet commanders found us a home and built it for us.
Everyone is wrong.
We come from a world called Earth.
An alien empire stole it from us.
Our fleet commanders hid it from us.
I found it.
And now I'm going to take it back.
