GARGH!

I know a guy online who is constantly crowing about getting his book published, and how it's now in development as a PC game.

Just one problem... He's self-publishing and writing the damned game himself!

Vanity press does not a good author make. Go no further than the infamous Mendocino Medicine Man for proof of that. Gods, I wish I'd bought a copy of that. It'd be a great firestarter.

I went to my aunt's house a few days ago to do some PC maintenance for her and smash an old drive.

I was struck once more by how much I love their backyard. It's not huge, but it has a pool, and more importantly, a Japanese maple and three lovely Birch trees.

Now I know what I want to plant in my yard.

I KNOW I keep saying this... deal.

I don't think ConJose/Worldcon is an option for me now. I'm going to look into going for one day (hopefully they'll publish a schedule so I'll know if someone I particularly want to see is appearing), but I just don't think I can save the money -- every check, something needs to be paid, and I'm trying as hard as I can.

I MAY still be able to wrangle it, but it will involve staying further away. The admission isn't the problem, it's the hotel bill.

Meanwhile, the rest of my family wanders off for a Mexican cruise the day before my birthday.

Anyway. Gah. I'll figure out something.

A Promise

Even if I don't think it's your best move, and regardless of whether I tell you that or not...

I will always support my friends. Even if I'm mad at you.

But I still reserve the right to be a pisshead once in a while.

Go see Broon. Better yet, check out where he'll be and go see him for real. He's hilarious. He's cute. He's one of the few straight performers who can make a gay joke and not get bitchslapped by the Queens at a RenFaire.

He's Broon.

I first saw Broon a couple of years ago, when I sat down at one of the Novato Nut Tree Faire's performance spaces for "a couple of minutes" to rest in the heat. Broon came on stage, and thirty seconds after his act began, I decided not to leave. He juggled. He swallowed fire. He bitched out the people standing in the audience area talking and ignoring his show. He was a GOD.

He was Broon.
