My niece arrives today!!!! YAAAAAAAAYY!!!!

Thank the Nine my Aunt lives in town and Kayla and her grandmother will be staying with her, or I'd have had to cancel the visit. And that would be major suckage.

For those playing at home: My niece (Kayla) is the only child of my only blood-related sister, Kenya. Sis and Niece live in Milwaukee, WI with Kenya's paternal aunt, who adopted her in much the same way our mother's sister eventually took me in (It's a long story; maybe later - if interested, comment).

My niece comes out once a year, in summer. I look forward to it every year because I can't afford to go visit her. She's seven years old now, and one of the cutest little ones I've ever seen. So today after work I'm going over to my aunt's home to hang out with Kayla and her grandma Becky. I'll have dinner with them and then go "home" and crash. I'll likely be spending a crapload of time there for the week they're here, so don't count on seeing me much if you don't work with me.

This is totally unrelated to your post, but I just wanted to mention that I'm enjoying the second book of the Chung Kuo series a lot more than the first. The pacing is quicker, the characters are more engaging and the women are less irritating (although Fei Yan is starting to vex me, but only for character reasons ;)) and I think it's just a much stronger book. I'm glad I decided to read it, despite my irritation with the previous volume.
