I want very much to go on a cruise. And while I do not necessarily deny the attraction of one of the larger vessels (though never of the Carnival line, for I am convinced that should I ever set foot on one of their vessels, I'd want to throw a large percentage of their clientele overboard within hours), I most want to go on a Windjammer line vessel.
Two weeks on an old-style sailing vessel, encouraged by the crew to take part in the running and steering of the ship, free roam of the vessel, tiny cabins (who needs large cabins, anyway? How much time will you spend in it?), the open sea, and the chance to lie in a hammock and read most of the day.
Either cruise would be fun to do either alone or with a group. I have a feeling, though, that Mike would be bored crapless with the Windjammer experience, whereas I crave it. Solution: Go Windjammer when he can't get vacation time, go larger when he can.
So the question becomes ... why didn't I do these things when I could have afforded them, and how long must I cope until I can afford them again?
Pay off the car. Finish school. THEN go travel.
Edit: Heh. Can you imagine my social circle on a Windjammer cruise?
Six people sit around a table, dice and papers infront of them.
Me: Wow. RP in the open air. Kinda nice. Ok, roll to hit, Elli.
Elli rolls a D20: Rattlerattlerattlerattle PLOP!
Elli dives overboard after her favorite D20
Not that we would roleplay on that kind of trip anyway. Well... maybe 7th sea.

Awww...
Re: Awww...
I'm sure I'd find ways to enjoy myself, but the neon-and-chrome ships don't appeal to me all that much. I'd much rather have the less formal experience.
