The title of the post basically sums it up.

My hard drive failed. I bought a new drive, and tried to recover the data from the drive. Nope. No dice.

"Oh well," says I. "I backed up my data back in May. I'll just lose some work."

Except that said backup only existed in an alternate dimension where I'm not an idiot. My last backup in this reality is from sometime early in 2010. Which is not as bad as 2008, which I first thought, but still bad.

My novel? Gone. All I've got left is the chapter-by-chapter summary I wrote to make the writing task easier. All my notes, all my scrivener files, gone. All I have is the first two pages.

My teaching materials? Gone. I've got all my English 11 and English 12 stuff, but I'm not teaching those anymore, I'm teaching ELD and English 9, and that stuff is toast.

My assignments from last year's grad school? Well, at least I have the Irish Lit papers in hardcopy.

A lot of music is now gone--including stuff from my iphone that isn't there anymore, because Itunes decided it would only copy SOME of the stuff to the computer, not all of it. Erg. I think that was operator error, mostly, but still, GAH!

All my pictures, all my video, gone.
