Assorted stuff of possible interest.
Let's do this Herb Caen-style:
ITEM: John McCain is an asshat. This little asshole is so wound up
with his homophobic bullshit that he's planning to filibuster the entire
defense budget bill to block the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
Really, John? You're willing to put the lives of ALL our servicemen on the
line because of the not-very-likely possibility that someone might get his
panties in a twist over gay men in his unit? Seriously? How about
this, John--maybe, just maybe, serving alongside openly gay and
competent soldiers who don't come on to them every ten minutes might
wake some homophobic soldiers up, making them finally realize that their
hate was misplaced. On the other hand, maybe it won't mean anything--maybe
nothing at all will change in the military. I'd settle for that.
ITEM: One thing I'm looking forward to next year is NOT being a Union
site rep. I mean, I kind of enjoy the union stuff, and I think it's
important--but I'm tired of being called in because Whiny Spoiled Brat
Teacher #1 doesn't like that the Union contract says "No, you cannot use
personal necessity time to give yourself a long weekend." Grow the fuck up
and get a work ethic, bitch. The admin said she could go, but she'd
have to pay the sub costs out of pocket. That's more than generous, in
light of the fact that the contract says that if you do that, you get a
letter of complaint in your file, making it easier to fire your stupid ass.
ITEM: I get that some teachers aren't good with technology, even some
who are younger than I am. But there is a huge difference between not
knowing how to fix your computer's technical issues, and not knowing how to
do the quarter and semester grades you've already done four fucking times
this year. And there is an even bigger difference between now knowing
how to use your computer and not knowing how to PUSH PLAY on a a fracking
DVD player. "Highly educated," my ass.
ITEM: Dinner tonight with Ed & Stef! Yippee!
ITEM: I'm so disgusted with the senior class, I've dropped out of the
Senior Trip next weekend. I just cannot be bothered to help out with yet
another "fun" activity when they cannot be bothered to treat me with respect
in my class. They've all checked out, not doing anything and acting as if
my classroom is poolside at the Hilton. I'm done.
