It's very difficult to know which side to come down on with this mess, because there is so much misinformation out there. I'm not sure sometimes whom to believe. Stricken because it gives the wrong message.

What it comes down to for me, though, is this: If the government wants to mandate that HMOs stop gouging their customers, that's fine with me. If the government wants to find a way to let people who cannot, under the present system, have health insurance, that's fine with me--even if I have to pay for it with my taxes, because god damn it, some things are important, and how we treat our own people is one of them.*

If, however, the government wants to force all citizens to get on this "universal" health care, and shuts down my HMO that I (and my employer) are quite happy with? They can kiss my ass.

EDIT: I didn't actually say "Hey, please interpret this for me." What I said was, it is difficult to figure out where to stand because there is so much misinformation--which is why my stupid parents are believing everything Palin says. And if I'm not willing to believe everything I hear on the news, from the Right or Left, why would I listen to you guys? I need to figure these things out for myself.

Please remember that I am an educated human being who can find the answers to this stuff on my own--in fact, I already knew everything that people have said so far. I was making an observation, not a request. It was perhaps badly worded, but it was an observation on WHY so many people like my parents are freaking out.

The "if ... then" statements are hypothetical, like this one: If America ever makes it illegal to be gay, or closes immigration to all but white folks, I'm leaving the country. We all know both of those possibilities are pretty remote, but it's still a true statement.

Thanks, but please stop. It is possible I'm overreacting, but please stop. Commentary is welcome, but now that no less than three commenters have said the same thing, please don't repeat it. Especially if your goal is to annoy me. I'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] jimbo_the_gecko. ;P

EDIT 2: Son of Edit: Sorry. Pet Peeve: Being told things I already know makes me nuts. It's silly.

* I find it odd that so many people are quick to bitch about financing health care for the poor with their taxes but have no problem at all with spending billions of tax dollars on unnecessary military spending--and when I say unnecessary, I mean the things even the military says they don't need.
