I love the Honor Harrington books. However, I am sick unto death of the author's political slant. I'm not sure Weber thinks as he writes--it's always a mug's game to try to determine if an author's own views match those of his characters, because hey, he is writing fiction, here, and if he can make up interstellar empires and technology we don't yet have, then he can certainly fake a particular viewpoint because it fits into his story--but yeesh.
I can handle the fact that Honor Harrington is beloved by all but her enemies. I can handle what
cedyeus calls the Cult of Honor, because that's part of the series' schtick, and true of the Horatio Hornblower novels which the Honorverse is based on. But I am SO SICK of the chapters that are nothing but preaching a particular, vaguely-right-wing political philosophy, disguised as either a conversation or one character's thoughts. I want to continue, because I love the adventure, but jaysus gawd, I'm tired of the preachiness. The liberal-bashing, too, bugs me, because I'm a liberal who thinks the "liberals" in the books are gibbering idiots, and either Weber has a distorted view of what we liberals think like, or he's purposely portraying them as fools to make a point.
