Don't get me wrong, I like my house. But I'd give it up (as I, in fact, have to) and live in these apartments in Greenhaven we discovered.
Upsides:
Rent=$50 less than we're paying (which isn't to say that's a big discount, just that we can obviously afford it).
24-hour Gym on-site, included with rent.
Three bedrooms, two of which have giant walk-in closets
Washer/dryer hookups (no actual machines, but we can buy our own next fall, if the secher nbiw* holds)
Private access to the nearby park and the river path, with several walking trails.
Nice part of town
Two pools on the premises
Close to good schools (not that we'll live there when kids are imminent, but it could end up being near my workplace)
Downsides
Further from midtown than we already are (but not a killer distance)
Possibly out of our reach due to cats. They allow two. Astute readers will note that we're over that limit, dammit. We're asking if they might let us pay more of a deposit to bend that rule, but I doubt they will.
I'm sure there are more, but I'm not seeing them right this moment. I want to go look at the place this weekend and see if it's as good as it looks on "paper."
*Secher nbiw=Golden Path. In the Dune saga, it's Leto II's perfect plan which will insure the survival of humanity; in my personal life it's the plan for my life/career that will make my family and I secure and happy. Or at least as secure and happy as we can be in the context of the larger world.
