My Responsible Decision for the day...
I stopped in OfficeMax this morning to look for a lap desk, which I'd like so I can read (and annotate) my books on the couch (yes, I can read there without a desk, but annotating my text is difficult with no surface to write on), and also it would make a good stand for my laptop when working/playing there. I do intend to start working at my actual desk more, but still...
Anyway, while there I walked down the aisle of computer bags/satchels. And Lo! There was one, which answered all my prayers! It was beautiful ... brown (genuine) leather, a computer pocket, spots for paperwork ... the absolute thing I will need when I'm teaching, and totally in fitting with the changes I'm making in my wardrobe over the next few months.
And I hate my backpack. It's not as nice as it looks, and though it fits my computer nicely, it doesn't hold my computer AND my books AND my notebooks without a lot of jimmying and shoving stuff in there, which has damaged some of my books. I have thought for some time that I would be better served getting a secondary bag for my computer and using the backpack for books/notepads.
So I decided to get it. Then I thought some more, and frowned, and said to myself: "Dude. You barely have a job. You need to pay your parking tickets so you can register for next semester. You need to take your cat to the vet tomorrow. You are NOT spending $80 on a satchel you don't actually need right now. Fuckwit."
So I didn't get it, and instead bought only the pens I need, since I seem to have thrown out the ones I bought a few weeks back. Which infuriates me because 1) that's five bucks utterly wasted and 2) do you have any idea how hard it is to find 0.2mm pens? I love them, and it's damned hard to find them; most office types use .5 or 1.0 mm pens, and those are too thick to write in books with.
Anyway, I also didn't find a lap desk, so I guess Online is where I'll have to look for that kind of thing, but it isn't really a necessity, either.
