I had a talk Friday with one of the Vice Principals at McClatchy High. She's very stoked with the idea of my volunteering there; we're meeting more officially next Friday. She's also let me know about an internal intern program at Sac City District; however I'll probably still lean towards Pipeline unless the Sac City program is also a paid program. I just can't rack up more debt; I need to get busy.

EDIT: The Sac Unified program IS a paid internship, very similar to the Pipeline project. There are only a couple differences; one is that the Sac Unified program involves student teaching during the summer before you start full-time teaching: you basically become a traditional student teacher for Summer School programs in the district, then become an actual teacher the next fall.

The other difference is that this program, unlike Pipeline, requires you to sign on to work an additional two years in the district after you complete the program. So it's really a four-year committment to the Sacramento Unified School District. That may or may not be a good thing; I'll have to discuss it with the missus.

In any case, I'll be attending an info meeting in December to check out the program. There are earlier info meetings, but that one is the first that wouldn't require me to skip one of my classes, and checking my syllabus for those particular days, I find it would severely impact my grade if I skipped any of them -- every single one is an important lecture or due date. So, NO.

I'm actually a little scared by all this, but also really excited. My future is pretty much here, now, waiting only to be seized and assimilated into my present. To be honest, I almost never thought I'd get here. Now that I'm here, looking at all the options, figuring out program application deadlines, and pulling my resume together, it's kind of like I'm amped up on about fifty million doses of caffeine. I mean, I've got to tell you, I am currently, as I write this, shaking with adrenaline.

Damn. It's here.

"If you're going into teaching for the money, you're probably not smart enough to be a teacher."
