I'm doing this because 1)I'm on lunch break, and 2) There's nothing I can do just now to help Elli through her earache.
1. What was your first job?
Depends. If you count unofficial employment, my first job was shilling candy, peanuts, popcorn, and the like for the Circus Europerama, which doesn't seem to exist anymore.
My first actual official paid-taxes job was for a store in Florin Mall called Woolworth's Express. It was crap. I got fired after two years, with good reason. And that's all I'll say about that publically.
2. How much did you make?
For the circus, about $100 per performance. But I only did it for one summer, and then for two years when they came to Napa.
For Woolworth's, I think I got $4.25 an hour in the beginning, and $4.75 when I was fired.
3. Describe your least favorite co-worker of all time.
Oh, there are so many, many co-workers I'd love to talk about here. But since the question is specific, I will narrow it down to Andy from AFS. This jackhole was the ultimate in pushy holier-than-thou Levitican*, passive-aggressive (and I mean that in the real sense, not the pop-psych version) little shits I've ever known. He is a tiny, bitter little man who used every covert chance he could to sabotage those around him, and rare was the day I didn't hear someone talking about how much they'd like to kick him in the head (or say it myself). He was just about universally reviled, and the only reason he wasn't fired was that he never gave them a foolproof reason.
Then again, this is the company where a girl who had a 90% error rate was kept on because she made quota every day. That's right, folks: AFS, where getting 20 Determinations done per day is more important than getting them right.
4. What is your dream job?
Teaching. That's why it scares me so much, contemplating being there in a year. It's what I've dreamed of for 18 years; what if I suck?
5. What do you currently do and do you like it?
I work in the University library, checking serials (read: Magazines) into the system. No, I don't really like it, but it's simple work, my boss is pretty cool, and it pays as well as any other part-time work I could get. And at least I don't hate 30% of my co-workers here (I don't hate ANY).
