Comcast: Nothing.
Verizon: FT, hours I can't work due to school. Ugh.
USAA: Nothing.
Sprint: Nothing currently, but I'm on file.

Jesus. I'd be happy as a frelling box-packer at Target, at this point -- but no, nothing.

GAH! The ONLY reason I'm not going insane is that I know, thanks to my aunt, that I'll have at least one more month before I get down to "How the frell am I gonna pay my rent" -- but I need a job real quick, because her giving me rent money will be a one-time deal. Which is more than I'd have expected, to be honest.

My family may annoy the crap out of me at times, but I have to admit they're generally the most awesomely generous people I know.

Tycho at Penny Arcade had this to say. It amused me, because I can see Elli or I saying this kind of thing to our son someday (though he'll assuredly not be named Clint, fond memories of my childhood friend notwithstanding):
Just as an aside, I played a fair bit of Unreal Tournament - 2k3 and 2k4 both - at a LAN party for a friend of mine's dad. That's what he wanted to do for his birthday, have a LAN party. No, I'd never heard of it either. Turns out his whole Goddamn family loves deathmatch. A couple rounds of Onslaught later, they were linking beams and busting nodes like professionals. Earlier that night (during a particularly frenetic round of Deathmatch on Phobos II) his mom chastised him, saying "Clint, I think your mother deserves better than to be killed by the translocator."

Hee!

Ok, back to the slogging. I'll be offline for a few hours, as I'm tracking down leads in the real, not-applying-online world.

See ya.

[livejournal.com profile] mslulu referred me to this website, and on it I found a rant by a guy who has the same name as a character I am writing for (when I remember to pick up the story).

The rant tells his opinion -- and I share it, I admit -- on what is wrong with Sci-Fi Conventions today.

On Tuesday, Talk of the Nation (that's an NPR show for those philistines among you) had an interesting show. The first hour was about gay marriage, and featured as my favorite caller a self-described "white evangelical clergyman" who called to say the following:

  • That gays ought to be allowed to marry
  • That it ought to be called "Marriage" or "Civil Marriage" and not "Civil Unions" because, quote, "a civil marriage performed by a judge is every bit as legal and binding as a marriage I perform."
  • That America needs to realize there's Religious Marriage and Civil Marriage, and the two are not the same thing
  • "I do not think my country should follow President Bush's plan for a constitutional amendment."

He further said that while his church calls homosexuality a sin, he doesn't consider it one, but that even if it is, it's no worse a sin than those he or any other man has committed. His whole point seemed to be that America ought to legalize gay civil marriages and leave churches free to marry or not marry whomever the churches want to.

The second hour was about Cult TV. We didn't hear this portion, but it had as guests Joss Whedon and Bruce Campbell.

When you have time, you can hear BOTH hours, either together or seperately, by following this link.
