Yeah, I'm here. What more do you want?

Last pay period, I worked two hours of overtime. That's not a lot, I know, but we can't work it unless it's offered/authorized, and that rarely happens. I said yes because I allowed myself to be guilted into it. Guess how much that two hours added to my pay?

Five dollars.

Last time I do THAT.

If you're going to publically disapprove of someone else's vices, make sure your own aren't basically insane (or intrinsically worse for you).

Apparently there will be a sequel to the 1995 sleeper Before Sunrise, with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy reprising their roles of Jesse and Celine.

In the original, their one night in Vienna ended and they pledged to reunite six months later. My own opinion was that they never did, because hey, I'm a cynic.

In the sequel, it's nine years later. Jesse, in Paris on a book tour to promote his novel, runs into Celine.

Linklater reported back in September that principal photography was complete and the movie should be out sometime in 2004. I can't wait -- the original was one of the most romantic things I've ever seen, without being schmaltzy and saccharine.

So there I was, hanging out in the Jedi Academy's common room, talking to my fellow students. And Rosh says "Do you ever get the feeling your Master is holding you back?"

And I thought "Oh, shit. I'm going to have to kill him eventually."

Ah well. I kinda knew he was going to fall to the Dark Side when we first met. "Oh, you already HAVE a lightsaber! I'm going to have to use one of those crummy training sabers!"

Boo fucking hoo, kid. Now let's play.

My problem is, I'm a weird combination of Capitalist and liberal who thinks the government ought to keep its nose out of my business.

See, I have no inherent problem with corporations. I don't think the fact Starbucks is frigging huge is necessarily a bad thing, and I shop at Borders, and Tower (and don't get me started on the morons who think Tower is still a local small operation. Look around, nutballs, the company is global), etc. However, I also think Starbucks and other large chains do some pretty crappy things to smaller businesses. I tend to shop at smaller, more local businesses if I can, but I don't feel guilty if I decide to go to a larger chain for something. And I resent those who castigate me for doing so.

I'm also against big tax breaks for corporations. Make them pay like the rest of us. They can certainly afford it.

And while I have compassion for the homeless and think something humane and helpful should be done, I'm not sure I want the government administrating it or supervising it -- at least, not the state or federal governments. I'd be ok with city governments running city-wide systems, but state welfare seems to be a sinkhole.

Most of all, I am willing to admit that I have no answers. But I'm constantly seeking them.

[livejournal.com profile] mslulu created this new icon for me.

The picture is my little Goth Cat of DOOOOOOMMMM!!!, Caisha. I don't think he was thrilled about the picture, but that's his problem.

The tagline comes from a movie. Can you name it?

If not, here's a clue )
