Something just occured to me: I've railed on a friend (who is LJ-enabled, but let's keep this anonymous) for whacking people who insult/smack his girlfriend even if they're joking with her. I told him it's stupid and neanderthal-like.

But last night, when my girlfriend was hurt by someone else's ill-chosen words (accidentally, really), I lashed out with hurtful words of my own.

Same impulse, different weapon. Guess I'd best shut up, now.
