Yay!
Last night, the Sacramento City Council voted to refurbish the Ping Yuen Building and make it an apartment house once more.
For those unaware, the Ping Yuen complex is the yellow building next to the Confucian Church in Sacramento's tiny "Chinatown" (in reality two blocks of chinese-looking buildings), which has been vacant since 1997 after years of deterioration.
The building had 72 apartments, which means 72 apartments will be opened up in a few years -- and we could use them.
Me? I'd live there. The place is actually rather nice, except for the tiny low-income units. And what a location!
Anyway. I'd been hoping they'd do that instead of tearing it down and building another office complex, which was one plan they had in mind. Thank the Nine they made the right decision.
