Got home last night just in time to catch Charmed, then managed to find a new way to rewire my antenna/TV/VCR so I could watch one show in perfect clarity while taping another show.

Alias was great, but Angel made my night.

You've gotta feel for Wes. I mean, on the one hand, sure, he kidnapped Connor and planned to give him to the bad guys, but let's face it, he was manipulated like you wouldn't believe and had NO CLUE he was being maneuvered. And despite the fact his friends knew he was fooled and meant only to save Connor, Angel tried to kill him and Phred told him "Don't come back, ever."

And they wonder why he didn't stick around, and blame him? They're lucky his reaction was so calm, I'd have kicked them in the head.

And Cordelia's moment ... oh, how absolutely wonderful.

Ok, this can be seen as both a general comment to all my readers, and also a reply to [livejournal.com profile] tobin's recent post on his circle of friends.

I've been hanging out with what I rather self-mockingly call "The Circle" damn near every weekend for a long time now. And while that's fun, it is also draining -- I LIKE to have a quiet weekend to myself from time to time, and when I want one I take it. Don't think anything is meant by it, don't think you're the Xander, it just means I want some time alone.

Also remember that I have good friends outside the circle, and I've been rather neglecting them. Sally, Sheryl, and Penny haven't seen me since May. I got a call from them (well, from Penny acting as spokesman) the other night begging me to see them this month a couple of times. Ed & Steph have been busy, but I've also not called them as much as I ought, and I'm working on fixing that. Terri and I haven't had time to just hang out with each other without others in ages, so we've made some time for that recently.

Hell, I haven't talked to Lorelei in a year or so. BAD, that. BAD.

To sum up: Sometimes I want to hang out with you, "you" being any given person I like. Sometimes I don't, and it's not because I look down on you.

Schedule for October:

11th: Distant Horizons, Game One.

18th: Out of play, going to hang with others at geek meeting. Give me shite at your peril; I'm losing patience with it. Tag-alongs are welcome.

19th: Out of Play: Mike's Birthday, no others welcome. His Birthday, his rules.

20th: Going to Fair Oaks Faire with Penny, Sally, Sheryl, Tracy. Others welcome.

Brannon Braga, the idiot extraordinaire who seems to think he's saved Star Trek, on Enterprise and Trek Continuity, and his inability to think chronologically:

Q: The fans have been up in arms about the show's fiddling with Trek continuity.

Braga: They shouldn't be up in arms, because we've been very careful. The continuity is airtight. Believe me. We know. We know.

No, you don't. You don't. Continuity issues and mistakes abound in every Trek series you write. My favorite is when the crew of Voyager goes to 1996 Los Angeles -- and there is no sign at all of the "worldwide devastation" caused by the recent Eugenics Wars, not even a mention of Khan's trial.

". . . In fact, I believe the second ... episode will be a big [Vulcan] episode, ["Carbon Creek,"] which actually takes place in the 1950s, and we learn that first contact with Zefram Cochrane actually wasn't the first time Vulcans had been on Earth. And the High Command has this secret thing that they're trying to cover up. It's not the Roswell crash. It's before Roswell."

No, the Roswell crash was in 1947, well before the events of the episode. Come to think of it, Roswell's been done: in Trek continuity, its been described as the night Odo, Quark, and Rom crashed on Earth thanks to a temporal anomaly. Which I'm sure you've forgotten.

*sigh*

No wonder Trek is so bad these days. JMS, Joss, JJ Abrams, Gough/Millar, thanks be to the Nine for you lot!
