Well.

Looks like I won't have the Cable modem back next week after all. See, I THOUGHT it would cost about $200 or so to get it back. Nope. Because of the idiocy of AT&T never getting my two accounts (Internet & TV) onto one account, the two balances have accrued fees separately. I've now paid off balance #1, but in order to get ISP service back will cost me another $166, plus a $100 deposit (can't fault them for wanting that, really), plus a month in advance, for a total of somewhere around $300. Which I won't be able to scrape up for another month or so, unless Mike gives me another break from rent, which isn't likely as he's got to save money for a down payment on a car. What I'll have to do is pay off the remaining balance, then do the deposit and reinstate service later. Ah well. I can handle it.

Ah well. I did it to myself. 56K is a penance for being an idiot.

Hmm. I just realised -- I keep saying Blair is 12, but she's really 11 until September 22. Sheesh. Or am I on crack? Hmmmm. Born 22 Sept. 1990... nope. She's 11. I just keep thinking she's a teen already.

You aren't sure where you came from. Perhaps your sire did an embrace and run. Or maybe your sire was an outcast himself. Either way, your powers are unique and really don't belong to any clan...or maybe a little from each. Because you of these circumstances, you aren't really sure where you belong. You tend to wander and do a bit of soul searching in your eternal life. Maybe some day...you have a while after all

Apparently, people who use British spellings annoy my old, dear friend [livejournal.com profile] lubeguy, among others. Here's my defense:

I do it as a result of the fact that British literature is my field of study. 99% of my British fiction -- both childhood (I grew up on the stuff) and adult -- is in British editions with British spellings.

Over the last 25 years, that's a lot of British spellings that have sunk into my brain to the point where I don't even think about it -- I use the "s" in place of the "z" and sometimes the "c" in "defence" instead of the "s" in American English. It's not an affectation, which implies a concious choice -- it is simply what I do because it is how my brain has assimilated those words.

If it annoys, well, too bad for you. It certainly doesn't bother me. I have bigger things to be worried about, such as people who try so hard to be "stylistic" in their writing that they lose all clarity and sense.
