Well, Zathras has been reformatted and had Win98 reinstalled. I got most of my peripherals working again, but I have to convince him he /does/ have a modem attached, then I can try to get the internet access working again.

I did manage to save the data I wanted to, by replacing the CD-ROM temporarily with another hard drive and moving the data (read: story work, MP3s and ahem "art") to that drive, then doing the reverse later.

Of course, I lost MSWord. Dammit.

I'm back!

Well, it's not Cable, but it will do. I'm on a stable ISP again, and Zathras is all fixed up and net-capable again, and if he does this again I'm going to take a sledgehammer to his CPU. And I've even got an old P1 I'm willing to demonstrate this to him with.
