Alleyn's childhood was pretty normal, in most respects. He tended to avoid his father, though he wasn't sure why his father hated him, he knew it was so. His mother tended to leave his care to the maid, until his father could no longer afford a maid, and then she left him to himself. He took over much of the care of Sophie when she was still very young, which has led to a closeness between them.

When Alleyn reached the right age, he was drafted into the Montaigne army. He served there for several years, and during that time discovered why he and his father were so at odds. He realised he was a half-blood noble, which meant he could not have been his father's son. He learned the ways of Porte Magic in secret until he was released from the army.

When Alleyn returned to his home, he found his sister married -- to a good man, fortunately -- and his father as painful to deal with as ever. He left his parents' household, taking a room in town, and applying to become a Musketeer.

One night in the inn, only days before he was to take his place as a Musketeer, a man came to Alleyn, an Avalon, who spun him a tale of love true, and asked him to hold a book – a book of poetry meant to be a surprise gift for his woman after their dinner – until the time was right. Alleyn, being the romantic Montaigne he is, agreed, and the Avalonian left the book with him and returned to his table.

Very shortly after that, the King’s Men showed up and began searching the patrons of the Inn. Not having anything to hide, Alleyn did not protest, and the book was opened – and revealed to be a cut-out book filled with jewels. Much to Alleyn’s shock and dismay, these jewels had been stolen only that evening from the Palace. Alleyn’s protests were unheeded, and when he looked for the Avalon man, he was nowhere to be found. So off to jail Alleyn was bundled, where he was tried, convicted, and sentenced to a year in prison.

When he was released, he had no future. Even if he managed to prove his innocence and have his name stricken from the rolls of the criminals, his honor had been besmirched, and he was
forever barred from the Musketeer Order. Not having any real ambitions besides serving in that highly-regarded band, he wandered the streets, eventually falling in with a woman who convinced him to join her on a privateer vessel looking for fighters. With a “what the hell” attitude, he signed on, and became a swordsman-for-hire on board the ship.

Only months later, he and his new friends captured the man who had ruined his career. Against his wishes, his captain signed on with the bastard for a search for a particular treasure. The catch was, first they had to break his brother out of a Montaigne prison. In the very beginning of that misadventure, Alleyn and his friends were captured.

Days later, a woman showed up and secured their release, telling Alleyn only to meet her in a cavern under the streets of Charouse in several days, for a commission that would decide the fate of Montaigne. Being a man proud of his nation despite his own bitter experience, Alleyn cajoled his friends into going with him, and they discovered their benefactress was Christine, youngest daughter of L’Empereur. The Princess asked him to go into Ussura and find her husband, the lowborn Montegue, elevated to General (and married to her) as reward for his actions in a previous battle, and warn him that he was headed into a trap, possibly one set by her own father. Alleyn agreed, then convinced his compatriots to go with him. And how that turns out, is a tale to be told another day . .

The following was something our GM asked us for:

All of your character's names, including aliases, nicknames, etc., and a brief explanation for each one...

Alleyn d'Argentique - real name The pronunciation I have in mind is somewhere between "Ah-LANE" and "al-LEHN"

Aliéné l'un (The Insane One) -- a nickname given to him by his army unit during his time on the Front -- "Captain, there are five men there, armed with swords and muskets." "Alright, send the Insane One."

A list of at least twelve people from your past. Please include family, friends, enemies, influences, or unrequited paramours. They can be living or dead, as long as they've had some kind of impact on your life.

Father (I think I gave you a name, if I didn't, it's Henri d'Argentique)

Mother (Mireille d'Argentique -- unless I already gave you a name)

Sophie Marceau (and yeah, I took it from the actress, sue me) – Younger Sister - Sophie adores Alleyn, but also worries about him. She's the only one he generally writes to, trusting her to tell Mother what she needs to know. Sophie is married to a merchantman who actually treats her well.

Jean-Michel Marceau -- Brother in law, devoted husband to Sophie, likes Alleyn but fervently hopes he doesn't bring trouble anywhere near them.

Domenique St. Claire -- Ex girlfriend. -- Now deceased (killed by highwaymen)

Phillipe St. Claire -- Ex boyfriend, twin brother of Domenique. And yes, they both knew. Still alive, still loves Alleyn, but Alleyn couldn't stay.

Jean-Claude d'Allune -- Swordsmaster who taught Alleyn. The father Alleyn wishes he had had.

Christine Dupre - Old friend, entirely platonic. Though they flirt and tease constantly with each other, neither can even conceive of sleeping together.

Santiago del Arrone -- Castillian friend and one-time lover, now a smuggler operating on the high seas.

Christopher Bremner -- Former lover and crewmen on Santiago's ship. Now dead.

Elizabeth Arrones -- Alleyn killed her brother in a duel called by Juan Arrones. In true Valreux style, Alleyn humiliated him as well. She now hates Alleyn with a passion and has vowed to destroy him -- then kill him.

Vasily Andreiv -- Enemy.

Captain Andrieux du Sice - Former CO, not quite a friend, but taught Alleyn much of honor in war. Also taught him what he knows of Porte magic.

Yeah, can't hang her, or she'll haunt the ship with her creepiness!

Michael, if we play 7th Sea, I want a haunted galleon. :)
