Oh, spare me the jingoism!

I listen to All Things Considered most days. On Thursdays, they read excerpts from listener mail. Yesterday one of the letters chided NPR for it's coverage of the "war" on terrorism. The lady writing claimed that they were spending far too much time on worrying about how many Aghanis would die, and not enough praising America. She said "How about showing some support for a people putting it all on the line to end terrorism."
Excuse me? Who is putting it all on the line? America? Oh please. We're not risking a whole hell of a lot here -- 99% of our soldiers are far from any Afghani weapons, sitting on ships at sea firing missiles. Even the pilots are only in the danger zone for a matter of minutes.
Give unto me a break.
