Not the best day, two.

My grandfather is very unlikely to live out the week.
It's possible, but he had a major debilitating stroke. He cannot speak, he can barely understand, and his entire right side is paralyzed. The neurologist who examined him said that the prognosis is very bad, and that we should consider palliative care. That's pretty much what the family has decided, because the ONLY other option is to put a feeding tube into him and send him to live in a Nursing home full time--an existence that my grandfather would never in a thousand years want to live.
There is a very slim chance he'll regain the ability to swallow in the next few days, which might change things, so we're in a "Wait and see what happens" before making a final decision. In the meantime, after consultation with the whole family, we put a DNR on his orders so that, in case of heart attack or further crash, he's allowed to go.
