Why? Because of this:

If you can't watch it, it's Mika absolutely refusing to read the lead with a lame story about Paris Hilton.

our media celebrity obsession reminds me of a classic Cynthia Heimel essay written in the late eighties... talking about how it is easier to talk about Roseanne's marriages & what Madonna & Cher are wearing than to really think about what we are doing to the planet with global warming and the starving kids in Africa and the various global conflicts around the world. The sad thing is how LITTLE has changed.... other than the names of the main newsmakers.

sorry for teh random. I went to school with tiggrrl and linked through to your blog recently based on a comment of hers... and between your insight on pedagogy and sweet tribute to your wife you posted I thought "what a neat person -- I would like to read what he has to say" & friended you. (Feel no obligation to reciprocate, I just felt brightened by reading your public postings). But I really should have made some sort of intro before randomly responding, huh.
