Sadly, that sounds about right. My first quarter at UCSD my books cost me about $325, and that was for a quarter. The sad part is if you try to sell back the books you might get back $50 (if they buy it back in the first place).

I've gone to a few hearings on textbook prices this last year, and it is a difficult issue to solve. Textbook prices are way to high and are compounded by new editions, fancy packaging, etc. In addition, you could argue it does hurt the quality of education if teachers are more concerned with assigning cost-efficient textbooks rather than "better yet more expensive" textbooks. Yet it is difficult to institute price controls on textbooks. There are certain small ways to reduce the cost of books but nothing in a significant way. I could go on, but I don't want to turn your anguish to a policy topic so I'll go into understanding-your-pain friend mode.

Dude, that sucks. Definitely check online before purchasing at the book store. There are some good online buys.
