Thanks to Nancy (one of the few coworkers I like), I now know where to go to get my shin-gunto appraised. I can finally know if Atsutake is a gendaito (unlikely) or not!
The likelihood, of course, is that she's not worth terribly much. But I'd like to know, and there's a limit to what I can find on my own.
So I plan to call this guy and see if he knows much about WWII Japanese swords (he specializes in swords, but I need someone who knows THESE swords). If he does, then October 4th is "Antique Evalutaion day" at the Folsom museum -- and I can get it looked at for $8 as opposed to the $100 the SF Sword Society wants.
