We finally got the living room floor dealt with, by which I mean the Ugly Nasty Carpet of Doom was pulled out, and nice dark laminate put down in its place.

Elli and I priced out our options, factoring in not only cost of materials and labor but also the ease or difficulty of work. We had thought we'd get the cement acid-stain that's becoming so popular, but when we looked at what that entails, it really seemed like a bad idea. It would have meant our living room would be bare and unlivable--and that furniture piled around the rest of the house--for three to five days if we had someone else do it; if we did it it would probably take twice as long and result in one of us killing the other. Not a good idea.

So we chose the vendor with the best price and got the flooring we wanted. And now we're no longer embarrassed by this room. There are some issues; we might end up having the floor replaced by the factory because of a relatively minor issue that will only be a problem (and frankly, I'm not sure it would be, but I don't know) when we sell this house (there are very, very faint lines visible between some of the planks, which I can barely see, to be honest, but some homebuyers might balk at that).

Anyway, the day went fairly easy for us, though wrangling Tegan while two guys worked on the room proved difficult at times. We inaugurated the room with Ed and Stef and some of last season's Doctor Who (we're catching them up) and dinner.
