Storytelling Institution
So I've been drilling at Pathfinder (which will very likely
experience a change of title, since a Science Fiction novel with that title
was published recently), and I finally hit on something I really like as an
inspiration for the story.
I'm basing a lot of the background and the general tilt of the plot on the
Irish struggle for independence.
Oh, sure, there are vast changes to be made--there's a difference between
one island taking over another for a few hundred years and an alien Empire
that takes over worlds--but the core of the story will deal with many issues
relevant to Ireland's struggle, both before and after the Troubles of the
early 20th century and the "new" Troubles of the 1970s. Post-colonial
issues will dominate.
Oh, frack. I am a Grad student.
