But it's ok.

I realized, talking to another teacher this morning about our profession,
that I had completely forgotten to register for Grad School on
Monday. So I fired up the Intertron and went to register . . . and
discovered that both the classes I wanted were full, not even
waitlisted, but CLOSED.

So I did what any self-respecting Grad student would do: Called my wife and
told her I'm a moron, then got my book of MA requirements out and started
looking over the offered classes for this semester.

I ended up taking 200E, Curriculum & Assessment. It's a T/Thur class that
meets from 4:30 to 5:45, taught by one of my favorites, so that'll be
good--he's British, with a sense of humor, and uses sci-fi examples in his
lectures. The course looks at how Curricula and assessment instruments are
designed for Language classes, and how to improve them. The only
requirements are two projects, which is common for this prof. I look
forward to it, even though my concentration is literature and I normally
avoid Curriculum theory.

I also signed up for another class that is undergrad level, as my program
allows me to take 2 undergrad classes as part of my MA, but I think I may
need to let it go. The meeting time is not ideal, so I'm going to discuss
it with my wife and see what she thinks. If I need to lose it, *shrug* I'll
live.

However, next semester, I need to get my ass ON the ball and register the
day--the HOUR, if possible--I'm supposed to.

I got an email from the department chair this afternoon stating a new class was available: Modern Irish Fiction.

RESULT!

I dropped the curricula class for a few reasons:

1. It's Curricula, which to be honest isn't the best use of my units--I'm in the Literature concentration, after all. A class in teaching Lit at the college level would be useful; a class on how the guys at Holt write curricula is less so.

2. I'm not sure what I'm getting myself into with Grad School yet, and with a full time job and a family, especially a baby girl who adores her dad as much as Tegan does, I don't want to flame out the first semester. So I'll go to one class this semester, then pick it up next semester with two classes.

Anyway, that's that.
