Parents: They're like nurse sharks.
They NEVER let go.
A while back I got angry at a student who was goading me and said something stupid. His mother got involved; it was a mess. I felt really bad about it for several weeks, because it was the kind of thing I NEVER want to say to a student. He was fine with me, we've had a good relationship since then, because the very next day I apologized. For that matter, the SAME day, I called his mother to explain the incident to her and apologize to HER for being a dick to her son. She, however, wrote a pretty scathing letter to my principal denouncing me as prejudiced, ignorant, and a "failed teacher." Ok, fair enough, though of course I didn't point out that slandering me (though technically I suppose it was libel) while castigating me for slandering her son (which isn't entirely accurate, because she got the facts slightly wrong) was ironic.
Anyway, as I've said, her son and I have had no problems since then. Today, he gave up on working with my student teacher and walked out of the room. I wrote a quick note to his mother, letting her know what had happened and a suggestion for how he could get help from someone else. Her response? "Well, it's hard when you know the people who are suppose (sic) to help you
tell you you're going to be a convict."
Oh, woman. I never said he was "going to be a convict," I suggested that if he didn't get his ass in gear he would be one. I was way more rude than that, but I have witnesses who can corroborate that while I was out of line, I didn't actually say he was stupid and going to prison.
Also... while I am glad you love your son and believe him to be intelligent (which he is), I question how you are so hostile to the school over his grades when he has not passed a class with higher than a C in three years, and failed half of his classes. He's not dumb, he's lazy.
Anyway, I love that somehow a comment I made earlier this year is now responsible for his bad choices as a student for the past three years.
