LJ Woes

I've begun to write length posts about various things--mostly observations of the universe, or discussions essays about things I think about--and aborted them half-written, because I'm no longer sure anybody even bothers to read LJ anymore, and though we all like to say that we write our journals for ourselves, the truth is we're writing for an audience or we'd do it in private posts or offline. I'm no different.

Sure, I've got a Facebook, but I got it mainly to keep in touch with old friends I never see anymore for various reasons--it's not a replacement for the interaction I used to get here. But LiveJournal seems to have died--and I'm not sure if that's because the people I used to write for have abandoned it, or if I'm just boring as hell.

Ah well.

My daughter and I are having a nice afternoon: We're in the backyard; I'm working on my story (I'm no longer calling it a novel until it's done) while she colors next to me.

Anyway, I'm wondering about POV. My original plan was to write this story entirely in first person, from the view of Teren. But I'm starting to wonder if that's the best option; there are things going on I can't show unless I use a third-person POV, because Teren won't be present. So I either have to rewrite chapter 1, or commit to the fact that some stuff is going to happen WAY "off-screen" (the story is--at least--galactic in scope), and do my best to show the impact through Teren's reflections.

There's also a middle ground, of writing most of the story in one POV and occasionally showcasing events elsewhere in a different POV. This is tricky; I've only seen it done effectively once, and I'm not sure if I'm up to balancing it well--I think I'm probably stronger at 1st Person POV right now.
