Pointless Geekery Post
I keep seeing folks on the Internet say that Dune takes place 10,000 years in the future. This is incorrect.
It is true that the first novel begins in the year 10,191. However, by the dating system of the Empire to which Paul Atreides is born, the atomic strike on Hiroshima and Nagasake take place in -14,225. This places Paul's time about 24,691 years in our future.
I don't know why I care. I just do.
Editted to clarify dating system.
