Another Fannish death
Bob May, a man most of you have never heard of, has died.
Bob played the Robot in Lost in Space (not the voice, but the guy who made it move). More than that, he was one of the nicest men in sci fi show business. When I first met him, I admit, I thought he was kind of a loser, dwelling on his glory days. But he was very drunk that night, and being kind of annoying. I met him again a year later, and had one of the most interesting conversations of my life over drinks late at night in the hotel bar.
I looked forward to seeing Bob at cons; we were never friends, but we recognized each other and he was always, always nice to me. The last time I saw him, he even asked about something we'd discussed the con before that.
I hadn't seen Bob in many years, but I will always remember him fondly.
