Wanted: Presenters
I'm trying to put together a slate of guest speakers for my Senior English classes. Ideally, I'd like something for December or January for my Shakespeare unit, preferably a presentation on the culture of the time (dress, dance, music) and another on acting. I can handle the academic side of theatre of the time, but my kids would benefit from a workshop approach, and that's not something I have experience in--not to mention, an outsider often can get buy-in I can't, especially if said outsider "embarasses" their teacher.
Unfortunately, the budget for such things is miniscule, so I'm looking for friends who have nothing to do at some point and are willing to come in and present.
I'm also looking for people to come and talk about careers. Anything with Environmental science would be good starting in February, but just about any career would be welcomed; college-educated or not. If someone would like to come talk about working as an Apple engineer (hint, hint!) or an IT tech, or working in the political arena, that would be great. I need to get these kids thinking about careers, and I'd rather do it by letting them see cool people who have cool jobs than have them read boring websites about careers.
I'm approaching some Institutions (for example, I'm hoping to get a reporter to come, as well as a FBI agent from the local branch), but if you're interested, let me know. Again, there's no budget, so if you're not willing to do it on a day off or something, this is not the ticket for you.
