After two weeks of working with this gods-damned program, I can only say:

I HATE "Making the Grade"!

EVERYTHING this program can do, my preferred program can ALSO do, but in a more intuitive and easy-to-use manner.

I HATE how I have to CLOSE a file and OPEN another one to move between classes, instead of just clicking the "move to class" arrows. I hate how clumsy the interface is. I hate how much more work it is to move, drop, or add students, or to re-arrange assignments, or make a seating chart, or basically do ANYTHING in this stupid fucking program.

I know lots of teachers love this thing. I can only assume that either they're masochists, or they haven't experienced the seamless, intuitive joy that is Easy Grade Pro.

Nevertheless, I am learning how to maneuver this dumb thing into doing what I want.

Imagine you are on your deathbed. Recommend to those who remain in your life...

1) One book to read.
Matthew Woodring Stover's Blade of Tyshalle. Though that's cheating, as you'd have to read Heroes Die first to get the full experience.

2) One movie to watch.
V for Vendetta. I don't care that it's not the same message as the graphic novel it's based on; the movie is a gorgeous poem about one man's ability to change the world.

3) One food to eat.
The Chimichangas made at Pancho's Cocina Mexicana.

4) One place to go.
Can't answer this yet... I haven't found the perfect place.

5) One life lesson to leave behind.
Shit happens. The best thing to do is figure out how to manage it, and do it. Because life always manages.

This is making the email rounds.... Don't know it's origins, but I liked it.

10 real reasons why republicans Right Wing Whackjobs want to kill PBS and NPR

1. "Car Talk." This show comes from Cambridge Mssachusetts, as lefty a place as there is outside of Berkeley and Ho Chi Minh City. That's reason enough to remove it and funding from any station from the air that would play it. Plus, the car talk guys sometimes recommend non-American cars, have the un-Amerian nerve to care about fuel efficiency and admit to liking hybrids sometimes, and do not consistently recommend that everybody drive a Hummer or Escalade. These Komissars of Kommie Kar Kulture need to be eliminated as threat to the American Way of Life, pronto.

2. "Sound Money with Kai Risdahl." This guy has 'financial experts" who consistently advocate saving money rather than racking up credit card debt and going to the mall 24/7, which is after all an American's patriotic duty in this time of war. He also does not spend every show stumping for Bush's Private Accounts "reform" of Social Security. Obviously a Liberal plant, deviously inserted in to a show about finance, i.e. a GOP stronghold. Needs to be removed, replaced with "Sound Money and How Democrats Are Obstructing The Future of Social Security, And Also How Catastrophic Defecits Re Good For You with Grover Norquist" immediately.

3. "A Prairie Home Companion." Two words: Lutherans: Minnesota. Not Bush Voters. Promotes a vision of traditional, small town American values that is also not into bombing towelheads and having government cover stuff up and preach hatred, division, and bigotry. Lutherans are very tolerant, peaceful, and liberal, i.e. a bigger threat than Al Qaeda. Highly subversive and dangerous threat to the GOP's Red State/rural voter/religious values dominance. Also has foreign guests who do not clearly state support for the invasion of Iraq each time they appear. Must go right away.

4. "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me." You know that game where they ask contestants to judge between two made-up news stories and one real one? That's not a skill we want to encourage, people. Get with the program, here.

5. "Sesame Street." Promotes faggotry among puppets, therefore a threat to our childrens' growing up correctly as small-minded bigots. Clearly dangerous - think what happens to the GOP base if people stopped caring about faggots and the threat they pose to our society? Also teaches all kids how to spell and count and think, not just rich ones, thereby endangering the all-important class system and levers of ideological control. Probably funded directly by Bin Laden, it's so dangerous.

6. "Nova." Talks about science, with no White House ex-lobbyist there to edit out the stuff big GOP contributors (oil, gas, pharmaceutical industries, etc) don't like. Also talks about science, not God. Plus, has science in it. Does not have much Bible in it. Lots of this science stuff, though. 'Nuff said.

7. "Mr Rogers' Neighborhood." Well, Mr. Rogers is dead. "Mission Accomplished" on that one.

8. BBC World Service on NPR. Folks, this just has to go. First, it makes all American news coverage look like the small-town, pathetic tabloid bullshit it is. Plus they report facts and stuff. And there are no Hannity's and Rush's and O'Reilly's and so on - just fact after inconvenient fact after damning reality, reported in a smooth foreign accent. Also report on news and politics in "other countries," including what people there think about the US. May lead to increased awareness of "international affairs," "nuance,"or "thinking about other sides to issues or possible repercussions before just going and doing shit." A bomb waiting to go off. Eliminate immediately.

9. BBC theatrical productions like "Masterpiece Theatre." What, NASCAR isn't good enough for you? You want quality entertainment, there's reruns of All in The Family. Don't get all intellectual on me with those big words and poofty accent, mister. Plus, English people are faggy and believe global warming is real, and don't like having politicians lie to them. Bad influence generally.

10. Overall, NPR and PBS promote the dangerous liberal ideas that (1) Americans should all have a few pennies of their taxes a year go to support something that all Americans can enjoy and benefit from, i,e. the creeping path to Socialism, and (2) things without corporate sponsorship, like for example news not directly paid for by the White House and corporate lobbyists, or where companies decide what annoys them and therefore what gets to be braodcast, is somehow an acceptable or even good thing. This is America, folks. If it ain't bought and paid for by the GOP or big business, we don't want it here.
