Drama: But is it?
I've been thinking a lot about personal Drama lately. I've done a pretty good job of removing most unnecesary Drama from my life, but that doesn't mean I'm free of it. I'll be having some conversations soon with a few people about that, but this post isn't about that.
However ... I saw a quote on LJ a long time ago, but can't find it. It basically said that a lot of what people see as Drama isn't Drama so much as it is people living their lives. Sometimes, emotional upheaval happens, and facing that and dealing with it -- even if it leads to arguments -- isn't a bad thing.
I think it's easy for many of us to say "Oh, that's just Drama," and feel all superior and intellectual, but by doing that we totally ignore that the person we're talking about is a human being with emotions and feelings, and by dismissing what to them is a frustrating or painful experience they're trying to deal with as pointless Drama, we both deny the importance of their feelings and also their very humanity.
Do some people blow things way out of proportion? Sure. Some people who are reading this have been guilty of this. I've been guilty of this. But that means that we're human, not losers who can't cope. Not Drama-mongers.
Tomorrow: The Mama Bear Syndrome and why I can't stand it.
