I'm one of those people who firmly believe that someone's art is -theirs- and therefore, cannot suck. I may not understand it.. but that doesn't mean it sucks just because I lack the capability to 'get it'.

*sigh*

While technically true--the fact one doesn't understand something does not mean it "sucks"--the underlying claim is basically that there can therefore be no such thing as "bad" art/poetry/etc... and that, I categorically deny. Some poems, to use one example I feel confident in evaluating, are just bad.

(And, hey--I've written my share of bad stuff)

Today

johnstonmr: (secher nbiw)
Today, I pay my tuition for my Impact pre-service classes, which begin this Thursday. This evening I will attend a Pipeline seminar on interviews, which is designed to prepare me for, well, interviewing with districts.

I could, quite cheerfully, smack the woman who coordinates the Impact program.

Elli and I massaged our finances a LOT to pay for this pre-service class by today (the deadline), because they hadn't got back to me on my request to defer until Friday, when our finances would be rosier (Shinji's giant vet bill, among other unexpected expenses, cleaned out our cushion this month).

I drove to Stockton to drop the payment off. And when I get home, I receive an Email (dated today, an hour ago) which says "Yeah, sure, just bring a check to the first night and date it for Friday, no problem."

See this face? Right here? That's me seething over the absurdity of it all. All of our hemming and hawing, all of our worrying over the weekend, all of yesterday's big giant frell-up... all of it, meaningless. Plus, I spent two hours on the road I didn't need to -- time I could have spent today sending out applications.

And today I finally got the "Yes, he's in our program, go ahead and hire him" letter, and they got my name wrong. Which is a minor point, but ARGH!

Well, I guess this is better than "I didn't get accepted" angst, or freaking out because I couldn't pay for the class.
