This right here is one of the things that makes our universe so utterly amazing.

The house is now clean, so I can relax for a bit.

I found a great commentary on the differences between the original Battlestar Galactica and the new one:
TOS was a wonderful escapist fantasy that brought me be a lot of pleasure as a kid, and that I still enjoy, I guess largely through the lens of nostalgia, as an adult. It had a lot of heart and a few genuinely great episodes, as well as plenty of lame ones.
The wonderful (and surprisingly dark) premise of the pilot episode was watered down for the series run, and it never really met its potential.

I love the TNS because it is uncompromisingly adult - dark and with a lot of resonance for our times. It's the most exciting and innovative show on TV right now, and as a "non-sci fi fan" it is the only sci fi show I've watched and regularly enjoyed since The X-Files.

I agree with this guy almost entirely. The only difference is that I am most certainly NOT a "non-sci fi fan," being, as I am, a dyed-in-the-wool absolute fan of pretty much all the tropes of sci-fi: Spaceships, robots, aliens, time travel, and stories that illuminate human nature by using out-of-this-world metaphors (Hey, c'mon, I wouldn't be me if I didn't throw that last pretentious bit in there, now would I?).

Ok. Now I'm going to go practice on the ol' violin for a bit. Pity my cats.

For those as don't mind such things, here's a shiny new trailer for Serenity. BE WARNED: Though it's not much more spoilerish than the previous trailer, it does give away some funny lines, so if you want to be surprised, don't watch it. I stopped halfway through because I decided I didn't want anymore lines given away. Yes, it took willpower.

Also of interest:

A Sound of Thunder is a time-travel story based -- and, it appears, quite loosely based -- on a Ray Bradbury short story of the same name. Still, it might be fun, though it appears the antagonist is different, and that I don't really get.

Pride & Prejudice is getting a new treatment, this time starring Keira Knightley (be still, my heart!) and Matthew Macfadyen (of MI-5/Spooks fame). My wife will always love the BBC version best, and I can't blame her -- but I still want to give this one a shot. It can't possibly be as good as a miniseries, but it may suffice as a film version.

The Legend of Zorro is a sequel to The Mask of Zorro, and stars Antonio Banderas and Catherine-Zeta Jones. It looks as if it builds on the original movie, and even if it doesn't, it looks damned fun. Ed, Stef, Terri -- we need to go see this together, so we can look meaningfully at each other and think "Drama Die!" at the appropriate moments.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe looks amazing. Enough said.

Rory O'Shea was Here is a romantic comedy out of England, starring James McAvoy (Leto II in Children of Dune as a wheelchair-bound young man who raises hell.

From Wong-kar Wai, starring Gong Li and Faye Wong, comes 2046, a chinese Sci-fi movie that looks ... interesting. It'll either be amazingly good or pure crap. I lean towards good; Wong-Kar Wai's track record is pretty damned good.
