Friday Five

1. How much money is in your wallet right now?

None at all. In my pocket is $2 in change. This is basically the life of a student.

2. How much money would you need in the bank to feel secure? Rich?

About $3500 in the bank is a respectable cushion. I haven't had that much at one time in forever, though.

To be rich, I'd need at least a couple of hundred thousand in "spare cash" and several hundred thousand more in money-making investments.

3. If someone gave you $100, no strings attached, what would you do with it?

Unless I had bills that needed to be paid, I'd go buy some books.

4. If someone gave you $1 Million, no strings attached, what would you do with it?

Pay off all household debts. Buy a house and furnish it where needed. Buy new cars for each of us (or repair Elli's car if she wanted to keep it). Set aside the rest for the future in nice, money-earning accounts. Though I'd probably buy an Alienware gaming PC.

5. How much does something have to cost before it starts counting as "real" money, as a purchase to be considered and evaluated, but below which you'll buy without really thinking about it?

$20. The limit used to be higher, but I make considerably less money than I did then, and I've more than myself to think of, now.

LARP musing

johnstonmr: (Default)
Lately, Elli and I have tried to get involved in Vampire LARPs here in town. And I've been sorely disappointed in every one of them. Somewhat because they had lousy players (I come from the Old School of LARPing, where who the character was was more important than what he was), but there's also the fact that I'm just ... sick to death of Vampires.

Reading posts on other discussions has really solidified this for me. Here's a sampling of the stuff I agree with:

Note to ratontheroad and Dancingshaman: If you're prefer I delete the below quote, please say so.

[livejournal.com profile] ratontheroad: Really, I'm just tired of playing Vampires. And I'm not, right now, but the point remains the same. It just gets tiring having everyone play this monster struggling with his/her beast. Its a good idea, but it gets old when everyone's doing it. And plus, the politics is strained. There's no really good reason for it to happen. Why should anyone ever go to court? It doesn't make sense.

[livejournal.com profile] dancingshamanI want to play characters that laugh, and cry, and fear things. I want to play a character that can take a few shots of whiskey and get falling down drunk. And I want to play in a game where maybe political machinations can take a back-seat to good-old human drama.
