Oi.

I have a ten-page research paper due in late April for my Advanced Composition class. I've chosen as my topic a literary analysis of the first three novels of the Dune trilogy.

I now have six books checked out on Frank Herbert and his work, as well as several journal articles I've photocopied from the Periodicals section of the library. My favorite title is "Semantics, General Semantics, and Ecology in Frank Herbert's Dune," which is actually a lot more interesting than it sounds.

Let's hope this doesn't kill it for me as an enjoyable work, eh? I doubt it will, but I'm also not looking forward to the work.

I'm sitting here listening to music on Elizabeth's Ipod (which, by the way, dear, you can take away from me any time you wish!), and I realize my head is doing that "nodding to the beat" thing.

And then it occurs to me that I'm head-bopping to celtic fiddle music.

Ah, well, it is Ashley McIsaac, after all, which means a bass line and drums as well, but still. Weird.

I'm beginning to wish I had just taken my proper name back when I was 18. It would have been a hell of a lot easier.

To change my name with Social Security, I need to show ID for both my old name and my new name. To change it with the DMV to GET said ID, I need proof of a name change. Now, that can be either a court-processed order of name change or a wedding certificate -- but the wedding certificate has to show the new name. And how the heck can I get my new name put on that without changing the name previously? (Note that it doesn't have to be that way for a woman taking her husband's name because the husband's name is already on the certificate. There may be loopholes in this; I'm still looking up info)

The DMV will also accept a birth certificate. I have one, which shows my name as it will be post-change. The only thing is, it's from before my adoption, when the certificate was sealed by court decree. I'm tempted to try to use it anyway and hope I get a clerk who will just accept it.
