Ok. I support the right of students who choose to pray to do so. I mean, that's a given, isn't it? Only a moron would think that such things should be prevented. I don't even have a problem with prayer groups in schools, though I believe that the Administration should not be involved.
However ...
While doing my final research paper read-through, I was looking for a page number and came across some small print in the federal No Child Left Behind act, to wit:
Ok, Georgie. I see how it is. You're all about supporting education and making sure no children get 'left behind,' but not if their school is run by those freaky liberals who think that religion doesn't belong in school more than it already is.
I mean, hey -- while I would never take part in it, I don't have much of a problem with students forming christian clubs or whatever. But because administrators might decide that that would constitute a violation of the idea of Church/State division, you're going to deny your oh-so-wonderful reforms to those schools. Likewise, any school or district that denies the Boy Scouts use of facilities -- maybe because they disagree with the Boy Scouts' policy of discrimination against gays and atheists -- gets denied the help you keep saying our children need. Asshat.
You're either pro-schools or you're not. Other things shouldn't come into it.

NCLB funds are denied to any school district that has a policy that prevents, or otherwise denies
participation in, constitutionally protected prayer in public elementary and secondary schools.
Any local district that discriminates against or denies equal access to patriotic organizations, such as the Boy Scouts of America, is denied funds.
