I still hate my shelving job.

However, last week I was approached by the supervisor for a different section (still periodicals, but her office does clerical stuff), and she offered me some more hours, in the morning so it wouldn't conflict with my shelving job. I said yes, and started this week. The job is more interesting, the people are smarter than my shelving unit coworkers, and it pays a little more.

This morning, she said that if I can work it out with Dang (the shelving unit supervisor), she'd like to offer me more hours -- to steal me away, in effect. So I'm going to tell Dang that at the end of this month (or sooner, if he finds a way to cover them), I'm giving up my weekday shifts. I'll continue working the Saturday/Sunday shift unless and/or until he decides to give them to someone else. Basically, my income will jump from $400 a month to $600. And if I continue to work the weekend shifts for Dang, that's an extra $240. This will allow me to pay off my final debt (I owe $484 to the state) in a couple of months, as well as easily make rent and have extra for necessary things. For that reason alone, I want Dang to let me keep working the weekend shifts, but if he doesn't, I'll still be ok. It will just take longer to pay off the state.

I feel a lot better.
