I just talked to my aunt. She says that June is non-responsive; they don't think she'll last the weekend. She's leaving this afternoon, so I'm headed down at about 3:30pm -- unless Brooke decides she wants to stay at a friend's house, but that's unlikely -- she's wanting big brother around.

Karla went on to say that she's incredibly grateful to me, which was appreciated -- I mean, it's not like she hasn't been equally wonderful to me lately, and if she hadn't, I'd have still done all this. But it's nice to be explicitly appreciated.

In that vein, I want to say that [livejournal.com profile] elisandra has been amazing during all this. She's helped out with the kids when she could, and supported me even more often, through both visits and phone conversations. I haven't been the best boyfriend in the world during all this; thank you, beloved, for forgiving me.

Called my old boss and semi-friend, Elaine, to see if she wanted to do lunch today. That's what I get for procrastinating; she's out of town until next Wednesday. Oh well, I'll call her then. Maybe I can do lunch with her next week while the rest of you whackos have to be at work.

Hrm. I used to be able to find language support so that my computer could display Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters. I need this again, as my Japanese studies will be resuming this fall, but I can no longer find the proper files on the Microsoft site. Anyone have a clue where I might go to do that?

Edit: I'm not talking about displaying these characters in IE; I've got that. But I used to have a program for displaying the characters in windows programs, and I can't find it anymore. I need something so that Japanese (and Chinese, and Korean; I assume I'll need three different programs) characters will display in other Windows programs.

I have Jwrite, (a DOS-based utility for typing in Japanese) but that isn't as useful as a windows program would be.

Additional: I found this, which is what I needed. But if anyone knows of any useful third-party software, let me know.

あなた は にほんご を はなします か。 すこし ちょっと はなします。

This is the absolute BEST feature of WinXP! If I'd known about this in-built multi-input support, I'd have converted AGES ago! Now I just have to remember to switch back to English input when I'm done with the Japanese; you don't want to know what typing "this is" gave me in Hiragana1

Forgive my atrocious grammar and simplistic sentence structure, folks. It's been a while.

Ok. The rest of this summer, time not spent actively searching for a job or being with others will be spent reviewing my Japanese skills and relearning what I have lost to neglect. Last time I did that, I got up to speed in weeks. It's all still there in memory, it just needs to be awakened by actually studing it. I may decide to start over at CSUS anyway; we'll see what my academic advisors suggest.

1 In case you do, it gave me ティsいs. Which is, strictly speaking, not hiragana at all, but a mix of katakana and romaji. So sue me.

For those who don't speak 日本語, the above sentence says "Do you speak Japanese? I speak a little."

It's over; June just died. Her son was with her. Karla's going down at 4pm, I may or may not need to be with Brooke (Blair is still going to be elsewhere). They'll probably come back Saturday or Sunday if they can get a flight; Monday at the latest.

She was a wacky old woman, and I'll miss her -- both the good and the bad of her.

Update: Seems I'm not needed to be with the girls anymore; they're staying with friends tonight and their parents will be back tomorrow.

Thanks to all.
