Dumbest thing I heard last night:

In reference to Munchkin Fu ... "Those Japanese Card Games are just getting out of hand."

Dude. If you're going to say something in an attempt to be witty and oh-so-gamer-god-ish, do us two favors:

1) Actually say something witty
2) Know what you're talking about.

Apparently "Reality" TV has reached a point where it's to be parodied deliberately (and no, much as it may seem otherwise, Are you Hot? was not meant to be parody, it just turned out that way).

The WB is going to do a show similar to American Idol, except they pick the worst singers and make them THINK they're being picked for their talent. It's all a big hoax.

Can't wait to see it; I have a feeling I'll be placing bets with my roommate on which ones KNOW they're being schnookered and which ones are just clueless.

And, like every reality show exept The Apprentice, to which I became hooked; I'll bet I only watch two episodes before giving up on it.

Because I'm sitting in my mother's house bored, a Friday Five from 2002:

1. What's your favorite TV show and why?
On the air now: Alias. It's the best Science Fiction show on television right now -- and the network doesn't even seem to be aware that it is SF, despite the producer telling everyone it is. It started out as a "simple" spy drama, and very very quickly became a dark story on which the future of the species hinges.

Ever: Babylon 5. Why? Politics. Raw pathos. Because it made me laugh, and it made me cry, often in the same episode. Because it is everything I wish I had the skill to write myself. Because it continues to affect me to this day, five years after it went off the air.

2. Who is your favorite television star?
Currently: Parminder Nagra, who plays Neela Rasgotra on ER. She brings the right amount of ambition and pathos to the role --- and she's damned beautiful, to boot.


3. What was your favorite TV show as a child?
Jeez. Probably Battlestar: Galactica, which I watched on first-run and on reruns for years, and which I still love, even with the corniness of some episodes.

4. What show do you think should have been cancelled by now? One Tree Hill, everything on UPN.

5. What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season?
There are no new shows this year that grabbed my attention. Of the shows I watch, most are several years into their runs, only one is in season 2. None are in season 1. There WERE a few I wanted to like, but I either never managed to see them or they just died quickly.

However, Stargate: Atlantis starts in July, and I want it to be good. I love Stargate: SG-1, but we'll see if the Sci-Fi Channel can make the spinoff work; I fear it will suck.
