One of the things I hated most about leaving my comics collection behind when I moved (I had to leave it as I had nowhere to store it in the new place, and Mike really wanted them, so I gave them to him) is that I lost The Fall of the Mutants. This storyline covered issues in all three of the mutant books of the time, but the only portion that mattered to me was the X-Men portion -- it's the only one I saw as a really good story (though my opinion is NOT universally held; many fans hate the story).
It is, in my opinion, a beautiful story of sacrifice and the cost our actions have, for us and for others. The X-Men give their lives to save the world, and the world watches on live television as it happens.
This was my favorite time in X-Men. I'd begun reading regularly with issue 211, and I kept with it all the way until last July, when I simply couldn't afford it any more (considering my huge reduction in disposable income). It's not what it was, that's for sure. But issues #211 until a few issues after the end of the FoTM storyline were golden.
So imagine my glee to discover I can get it in trade form!
Actually, it looks like I can get most of my favorite storylines in trade form. Hmmmm.... take up less space, look just as good ... we have a winner! Someday, my favorite stories, someday.
Heh. If you just looked at my Amazon.com wish list (which I largely use as a "Hey, Michael, buy this when you can" instead of a "Hey, buy me this", since my family rarely bothers to look at it and my friends tend to not need to), you'd think I only read comics if you didn't look beyond page one.
