While I'm sure OpenOffice is a fine program, it does not do the things I need it to do in the way I need it to do them. So, meh.

Mslulu, looks like I'll be borrowing time on the new box for as long as you'll let me. I'll try to do stuff while you're not home so as not to cause you problems.

Empty

Wow. I'm feeling incredibly empty and not of the caring right now.

This company is spiralling around the drain, I think. After our switch to a new system back in December, we've lost several accounts. The sales guy (Mr. Bald Bastard who makes FAR more than anyone who actually DOES anything) is scrambling to replace them. Meanwhile, we routinely run out of work midday and have to scramble for make-work. It's pathetic.

And I don't care. In fact, if they came out right now and said "Hey, we've decided we have to lay off some people, and you're number one on the list," I'd say "Good, thank you," and head off to lie down for the rest of the day, then start looking for a new job tomorrow after school. In fact, if they came out and said "We fucking hate you, here's a check, get lost," I'd be happy as hell, because then I could say "Good, thank you, and by the way, you have all the management skills of a dead Pygmy Shrew, bye" and then go home, lie down, cry a little, and then get to work looking for a new job.

Because, as many of you no doubt have gleaned, I loathe this place. I hate coming here. I hate the drive, I hate the work, and I hate the attitude of the management. I haven't had a raise in over a year, and I just found out no one is getting one THIS year, either.

And yes, I AM looking for other jobs, but it's not easy between this and school. I only have a few hours each day, and I haven't yet found anything that is any better. Many, in fact, are worse, and it isn't helped by the fact that come August, I have to go part-time. Hrm. Maybe I just shouldn't tell them that part, but I'm afraid that if I do that, when the time comes they'll say "No, can't do that. Either full time or nothing." I've actually had some people tell me they didn't want to hire someone who'd be going PT next fall.

Ugh.

My Star Wars game is nearing the end. Four years of war, four years of endless battles, of joys and of heartache, are nearly over. Friends have fallen, and the heroes who are left are about to make the final stand ... and the decisions they make in these final hours will decide the fate of both factions. Because even now, they could lose everything. But that's a different post.

As that game winds down, the world of the League moves ever more into the center of my gamer mind. It takes form, and as abstracts become concrete, I write them down for you. Some of you will play in the game, and some will not. I thought about restricting these posts to only those people whom I intend to invite into the game, but I decided not to. Even non-players may have advice I can use.

Note that "The League" is just what I'm calling it now, it may very well change.

See, now, the world of The League )

Ok, this is fragmented and not at all in final form; I would like your opinions/comments anyway. If you have none, fair enough. Don't worry about sparing my feelings, some of this is probably a bad idea -- it's all fresh from my brain while I work (it took me over an hour to do this, in one-or-two sentence bites).

The game would focus on threats both Mystical and "quantum science" in nature -- one adventure may be fighting the ancient Rashan, and the next people from the next reality over. I'm going for an odd mix of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "The Authority" that may not work; I'm still considering it.
