Dear gods, people.
Horatio and Simpson fought a duel, not a dual.
They're playing with their dog over there.
The plural of anime is anime.
Delenn is a minbari, not a mimbari.
For that matter, it's G'kar, not J'kawr. And while Londo Mollari lives on Babylon 5, Lando Calrissian does not.
The possessive "its" has no apostrophe.

Not my finest moment.
Whoo!
I just got into a full-on bitching match with one of the other guys (Bo, for those who know my officemates) over his interrupting me to go off on one of his trademarked anti-arab "They don't respect life like we do" rants.
See, I was telling them about this Canadian citizen who was arrested in the US on suspicion of terrorist links while travelling back to Canada. The US deported him not to Canada, but to Syria, where he was tortured for a year by the Syrian government in an attempt to learn of his non-existent connections to Al-Qaeda.
I'd only mentioned this guy was arrested on suspicion when Bo went off on "well, they probably know something we don't. Those people are in a dark age, you don't ..." blah blah blah, insert anti-arab right wing nonsense here. I interrupted him to point out that if he'd bothered to listen to the whole story, he might not be saying all that, and it led to us arguing for several minutes, with me trying to remain logical and Bo being petulant at being interrupted, never once getting the point that there was information he hadn't heard that might have changed his mind. I eventually gave up in disgust and he's been "quiet sulky guy" ever since.
Yeesh.
EDIT: Bo and I have now apologized to each other and all is well between us.

If you're a friend of mine without a LJ, just write to me at mahdi7 at comcast dot net and I'll hook you up with a code. Note that you must actually be a friend of mine, not some random dit'ta who wants one.

Blood ... boiling!
I'm looking forward to the revamped Battlestar Galactica despite its differences from the original show. However, one of the actresses had this idiocy to spew:
(Deep breath) Oooohkay. Look here, little miss "model-turned-actress", it is clear to me that you know precisely squat about science fiction. To make the implication that science fiction fans don't like character development is to completely ignore several fairly recent shows, all of which were unabashedly science fiction, all of which are/were quite popular: Babylon 5, X-Files, Andromeda*, Deep Space Nine. Most infortunate is your lack of knowledge that the term "science fiction" denotes far, far more than "Star Trek." Literary SF, at least the stuff of the New Wave and the following movements, is all ABOUT character development.
Fuckwit.
*My friends tend to hate Andromeda, but it's the number one action/sf show in syndication, so it's popular. And I like it. And the characters DO change and evolve, though not as fast as, oh, B5. Also, Firefly was left off because let's face it, it was brilliant, but didn't get good ratings.
"I think it's going to be fantastic," Helfer said in an interview. "I was never a science fiction fan before this. I like realism. Those are the kinds of films and shows I'm attracted to, and science fiction can sometimes be too over the top for me. But I like what they've done with Battlestar Galactica, which is make it as real as possible."
Model-turned-actress Helfer plays Number Six, a sexy humanoid Cylon, from the race of cyborgs that sets out to destroy the human race. "I love what [director] Michael Rymer did in terms of directing the actors," she said. "He made it a character piece and gets you invested in the people. It's not just funny aliens running around and, 'Oh, isn't that special effect cool?' [But] the effects are cool, too. So I think sci-fi fans will be there anyway. But the character development will draw in other people who aren't sci-fi fans."
