"Oh girls," i might have said, "there were legwarmers and denim skirts and bangs teased so big you could use them to stuff a pillow. we had Billy Idol, who taught Spike everything he knows about being hot; and we had David Bowie right as his voice went all rich and deep."

I'm fascinated by sharks.
When I was a kid, my dad used to fish for shark in the SF Bay. He never kept them, just hooked 'em, took a picture, and let them go. Once, when a young one was hanging from his line, he bade me touch it. I was scared, but fascinated, and I went forward to do so -- just at the moment it gave a mighty flick of its tail and sent me staggering across the deck.
Mom yelled loud about that one.
Ever since, sharks have utterly captivated me. The only other predator species that fascinate me nearly as much are cats and raptors. My favorite non-fiction book as a child was a big book of sharks.
Did you know Whale sharks are 30 before they're considered mature, and they live for 100-150 years? That's the kind of stuff stuck in my head.
There is just something beautiful about a shark scything through the water, searching for food. It's magical and scary and gorgeous, and fills me with delight in our world's diversity even as it causes a chill in my core.
I love sharks.
