So, this is 32.

Eh. Same as 31.

Anyway, the weekend was very enjoyable. Friday I had breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] lubeguy, who is betraying the House Atreides by moving to Bakersfield (but it's a good move for him, so I'll cope). Then I hung out with [livejournal.com profile] g31g3r and [livejournal.com profile] mslulu the rest of the day until Elli's game began. Saturday I got shanghied off to San Francisco by the husband, as well as [livejournal.com profile] tobin and [livejournal.com profile] mslulu. We had lunch at a nice Italian place where I completely blew my diet on pizza and half a canneloni. Yum. Then I stared at my beloved ocean1 for a while before we went to Japantown to get yummy tarts at a cafe there, as well as frustrate my low Nihongo fluency in the Kunokuniya Bookstore.

Sunday I was taken to play at Laser Force by [livejournal.com profile] ox_number_10 (who is to be commended on his planning -- not easy when dealing with the Six), [livejournal.com profile] elisandra, [livejournal.com profile] tobin, [livejournal.com profile] mslulu, [livejournal.com profile] g31g3r, [livejournal.com profile] lograh, and [livejournal.com profile] thunderlord and his wife. This was followed by dinner at Tower Cafe (yummy!) and strange games played at the Social Fallout Shelter.

Monday was nice and quiet -- hours of playing Enter the Matrix, then I went to the familial residence for an hour of frustrated unloading of their camping supplies and then a few hours of pleasant family birthday celebration and much ribbing about being 32. Grandpa told his traditional story of the day of my birth2, John got fairly drunk; there was very good food (my family makes a mean BBQ). I received enough dollars that I'm seriously considering going to Best Buy after work to buy a new Hard Drive. 7GB is just not cutting it any longer even with the 2GB drive I use for storing nonsense files3. And an afternoon of installing windows and re-installing all my third-party software seems pleasant enough, compared to math.

Oh -- Children of Dune is excellent. Except for the eyes. Those were bad.

1 - There is nothing on this planet so beautiful to me as the sea. Nothing.

2 - "I went to see Michael when he was born, they said 'Oh isn't he the cutest thing?' I said 'Shit, no!'" That's the entire story.

3 - Yes, that's a euphemism for Porn.

I think I need, for my own sanity, to actually do some of the household improvement projects I've come up with.

Currently, these include:

1) Refurbishing the Koi Pond so it's less maintenance-intensive and overgrown with weeds. (New filter, grass/sod around it, demolish and replace leaky waterfall)

2) Ripping out that ugly-as-sin juniper near the kitchen window and replacing it with a small Japanese garden. (Or, at the very least, decent groundcover)

3) Painting Living Room (hmmm. Perhaps I'll swing by Home Depot on the way home and get the paint . . . I can certainly afford it . . . and I have the time . . . hmmm)

Here's the thing.

As Elli has observed, I often will eat crow just to end an argument and/or make peace.

You know what? Sometimes, I get to a point where I'm fed up with doing that, and I want to take it to the wall instead of make peace. And that's just not conducive to continued friendship. So I swallow it some more, and then vent later.

It wasn't just EMH that was making me angry, kids.

WOOHOO!!

Thanks to birthday cash and a handy rebate offer, I now have a 40GB HDD that I spent only $29 for.

Yeah, I know, 40GB isn't a huge amount these days -- but I upgraded from a 7GB drive, so this is fun fun fun for me.
