I've realised what it is, exactly, I hate about the newer Star Trek series. It isn't the substandard storylines; every show has a few of those. No, it's the titles. TNG had some good ones, DS9 had some, but Voyager and Enterprise suck at titles.
I mean, sheezus, could Enterprise's last title have been any less cool? They might as well name the shows "The One where Archer is right" or "The One where T'Pol Learns Tolerance" or some shit like that. And Voyager was just as bad.
The Original Series was known for nifty titles. They came from biblical passages, classical literature, and lines from the script. The episodes weren't always stellar, but the titles were: The Conscience of the King, Whom Gods Destroy, That Which Survives, The City on the Edge of Forever, and my personal favorite, For the World is Hollow, and I have Touched the Sky.
What did we get for the last Enterprise story? Was it "First Contact, Revised"? Nope. Was it "Once Upon a Time in Pennsylvania"? Wrong again. What did we get? "Carbon Creek."
Snore.
Buffy gives us good titles: School Hard, Hush, Becoming, etc. Farscape has good titles, with the notable exception of "Premiere". Babylon 5 gave us "All My Dreams, Torn Asunder" as well as "Intersections in Real Time", "And Now for a Word", "The Corps Is Mother, The Corps Is Father", Meditations on the Abyss, and my favorite title, "Falling Towards Apotheosis", as well as five years of other wonderful titles (And a few clunkers, too).
*sigh*
I know, the title is not the story, but the title should make you WANT to see the story. The Title isn't the whole story, but it is a part of it, and it ought to shine.
